The consensus is clear: 97 percent of climate scientists agree that humans are causing global warming and climate change.

The good news is the message is getting through. A report from the Pew Research Center in September of 2021 noted that 80 percent of people “are willing to make changes to how they work and live to reduce the effects of global climate change.”

It’s time for all of us — individuals, businesses and institutions — to take a stand and pursue actions and initiatives that help protect our planet.

Of course, there is talk and there is action, and Miller Zell is proud of its record of green initiatives and efforts to make our operations more sustainable as we partner with our clients to develop and optimize their branded environments. We embrace the circular economy of reduce, reuse, refurbish, repair and recycle.

We strive to continually improve our green initiatives and make our operations more sustainable.”

Our environmentally friendly policies, practices and initiatives include:

  • In 2018, we installed a one-megawatt solar array on the roof of our corporate office and are now generating renewable electricity. We anticipate production of 1,470,000 kWh per year over the next 25 years. Solar production will offset our non-renewable energy use by nearly one-half each year and reduce our annual carbon footprint by 1,206 tons.
  • We are one of 58 companies in the nation that is recognized by the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP) as a sustainable printing facility.
  • Miller Zell maintains a sustainability policy that is overseen by a sustainability coordinator and committee that focuses on energy savings, waste reductions, emissions reductions and reduced resource consumption. Its projects include going paperless (I-Auditor), retrofitting energy-efficient lighting, implementing personal recycling and optimizing technology (SharePoint, Teams, 1Drive).
  • We follow a comprehensive recycling program, including the use of a process to recycle foamboard, which is 40 percent of the company’s raw materials. Additionally, Miller Zell’s in-house cafeteria uses green and recycled products, while the company also uses environmentally friendly Ecolab pest control. Further, it insisted on the use of native plans for landscaping around its headquarters, thereby requiring the use of less water.
  • Miller Zell uses recrylic materials — recycled acrylic that is itself then recyclable— as part of our efforts to utilize sustainable materials. 

  • We engage in responsible material sourcing and use of resources to reduce our carbon footprint. We focus on managing all the company’s activities in an environmentally healthy, safe and responsible way. We seek to decrease waste, find ways to reuse and recycle and use energy more efficiently.
  • We actively seek out organizations focused on sustainability, such as SGP and SmartTransport.
  • We continually work with our supply chain to increase the use of materials derived from renewable resources or with low environmental impact.

Further, as a true end-to-end partner, we pledge support to our clients’ sustainability metrics, goals and projects. This includes upstream and downstream initiatives like working with our suppliers and our own improvements.

Edelman’s 2022 “Trust Barometer” begins with a conclusion Miller Zell supports 100 percent, “Societal leadership is now a core function of business.” It also found that 58 percent of consumers “will buy or advocate for brands based on their beliefs and values” and that 52 percent believe businesses “are not doing enough to address climate change.”

Sustainability is a fundamental part of corporate social responsibility, and it is at the heart of Miller Zell’s core values and corporate mission.

It’s good for the planet. And it’s good business.
