SMU: Gallery 1911
An immersive, customizable branded environment.
SMU wanted to refresh and expand the potential utility of Centennial Hall, the atrium in the lower level of the Hughes-Trigg Student Center. Now called “Gallery 1911,” its purpose is to celebrate SMU’s past while pointing toward a promising future. It features a variety of visitor amenities and is flanked by meeting rooms and event spaces and is a destination for campus tours and athletic recruits. Further, the renovation time frame was demanding.
THE SOLUTION
Miller Zell previously partnered with SMU, renovating Hughes-Trigg and creating a modern, purposeful and inviting gathering space for students, so we understood that "Gallery 1911" also needed to honor the spirit of the school while building brand affinity and boosting the student experience. Our design team created an immersive environment, highlighted by a 40-plus-foot interactive, gesture-based, touchless digital wall that allowed for customized, event-specific content.
THE RESULT
Miller Zell delivered the renovation in less than five months, executing an innovative branded environment that was interactive and customizable, one that zeroed in on what was great about SMU’s past and its vision of the future. We designed, built and installed all fixtures, signage and graphics. We developed and installed all digital and interactive content and all back-end systems to run the digital programs. A dated atrium transformed into an immersive destination.
