ATLANTA, Aug. 26, 2019 – When the Atlanta Braves signed star third baseman Josh Donaldson last November, they acquired more than his considerable talents. They also gained his commitment to charity and community service.
Donaldson will be hosting his fifth annual BaseBOWL Tournament on Thursday at Bowlero Marietta, and Miller Zell is proud to support the event.
All proceeds will benefit the Josh Donaldson Foundation and the Atlanta Braves Foundation. The festivities run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and several of Donaldson’s Braves teammates and coaches also will participate.
The Josh Donaldson Foundation provides “underprivileged children as well as youth from single parent homes with opportunities to participate in activities that offer access to sports, mentorships and positive life experiences,” according to its website.
The first four BaseBOWL Tournaments were held in Toronto, Donaldson’s former home. Donaldson said he adopted these causes based on his own childhood experiences.
"It rings close to home, growing up in a single-parent home and not really having a father in my life," Donaldson told MLB.com before last year’s event. "I definitely had people who were able to step up to the plate and try to help guide me in certain directions. I think it's a huge program for people who are also in that same type of situation, to have a person to help guide them."
In addition to the bowling competition, the event will include a silent auction featuring signed memorabilia and vacation packages.
The Atlanta Braves Foundation is the nonprofit arm of the MLB franchise. It supports community organizations and programs within the metro Atlanta area.
