Culture is a business priority

Doing what’s right for our clients, associates and community

By Miller Zell

When it comes to our retail clients, Miller Zell focuses on what is important to them: an exacting focus on thoughtful innovation, optimized customer experiences and return on investment.

Likewise, when it comes to our own company, Miller Zell cultivates a culture based on our associates’ values: inclusivity, sustainability, optimized associate experiences and understanding the important connection between doing what’s right and our business’ bottom line.

In our mind, this makes perfect sense. We believe that a positive workplace environment is vital to providing clients with outstanding work.

It starts with attracting and retaining the best talent in the industry -- talent that loves developing innovative retail solutions and shares our values.

“With job demands shifting and the labor market tightening, an inviting and stable culture where employees are valued and appreciated is attractive to job seekers,” said Lavina Moss, Miller Zell’s executive vice president of human resources. “We are serious about hiring people who fit our culture. Doing this allows us to attract people who will thrive in our environment.”

Miller Zell believes that recruiting and nurturing a diverse workforce is both the right thing to do and best serves our clients. Collaborations at Miller Zell that include and respect a wide range of points of view and perspectives mean clients get thorough analysis and insightful strategy to deliver their brand promise.

Sustainability, charity, community

In retail, customers care deeply about the environment and businesses that pursue sustainability. In its “Global Powers of Retailing 2018,” Deloitte asked young consumers what is most important to them in a retail experience. Sustainability was among the top four answers.

A 2015 study from Nielsen noted, "Consumers are trying to be responsible citizens of the world, and they expect the same from corporations. So when it comes to purchasing, they are doing their homework."

Sustainability is a part of Miller Zell’s culture and business mission.

We’ve adopted responsible material sourcing, recycling and conservation initiatives at our campus headquarters. We also are one of just 58 companies in the nation with certifiably sustainable print facilities. Further, in 2018, we installed a solar array on the roof of our corporate office that produces 1,470,000 kWh of energy per year, offsetting our non-renewable energy use by nearly one-half and reducing our carbon footprint by 1,206 tons annually.

Our strong corporate culture also prioritizes giving back to our community. Miller Zell actively supports charities and causes that are important to our associates. The Miller Zell Charities Foundation and our associates are significantly involved in raising money for breast cancer and Alzheimer’s research and sponsor deserving organizations like the Special Olympics, the Lupus Foundation, Bankhead Boys Association and Wellspring Living. Each year, we host an Annual Charity Golf Classic.

In addition to charity work, Miller Zell’s outreach includes the community surrounding its Atlanta headquarters. Miller Zell CFO David Seem is serving a two-year term as chairman of the Fulton Industrial Community Improvement District, while many associates have volunteered to help clean up local parks and nature trails.

Wellness: Motivate, support, thrive

Miller Zell offers a wide range of benefits to associates and an incentivized wellness program that focus on financial, mental and physical health and wellness. We also provide an onsite cafeteria, a fully equipped gym and cultivated walking trails around our headquarters that encourage physical activity and provides work-life balance.

So what does this all mean for prospective Miller Zell associates? It’s simple. We are a company focused on the retail customer experience but we also emphasize the employee experience.

Happy, healthy and motivated associates both want and deserve a corporate culture that supports them with outstanding benefits and wellness programs.

While many retail design firms are mostly about pretty pictures, Miller Zell defines itself with research, strategy, execution at scale and return on investment.

The same goes for our corporate culture. Ours is not about just using trendy buzzwords. When it comes to inclusiveness, caring, wellness and action, Miller Zell is about dedicated effort and measurable results on a daily basis.
